Duties:     Volunteer will promote health and hygiene awareness in schools and other public gatherings. Topics include health, nutrition, hygiene and anti-tobacco. Methods include trainings, lectures, skits, and other interactive techniques. These volunteers will also assist with consultation and health screenings (blood pressures and diabetes) under the supervision of a doctor.
Education promoter. Volunteers will support education by working with children and/or adults to improve language and math skills. Work will be determined by languages spoken/written: English, French or Arabic. Non-French or Arabic speakers work in an active language learning program for unschooled and under schooled children. Training provided but volunteer comes up with curriculum. French or Arabic speakers may provide afterschool tutoring for in-school children in a more formal setting, but must also come up with their own curriculum.

Acceptable Dress: Women will be asked to wear local dress at times. When out of their home, women should wear clothing that covers legs, arms and head, but not form fitting. Men should not bear their chest and wear shorts knee length or longer. ADRA supplied clothing must be worn at ADRA events.
Unacceptable Dress:  Women: Shorts that are shorter than knee length and sleeves should be at least mid-upper arm, may wear what you like at home when no Mauritanians present Men: Shorts that are shorter then knee length

Additional Information
As a Muslim country, the culture is very different from Western countries. This especially affects the interactions between men and women, hospitality and holidays. As a less developed country, there are fewer recreational activities and less options for food.
